Whitley Bay - a great location
Whitley Bay is located on the North East Coast about 8 miles from Newcastle Upon Tyne. In 1894 the Urban District of Whitley and Monkseaton were founded and in 1944, Whitley became known as Whitley Bay to distinguish it from the town of Whitby further down the coast.
A popular holiday destination - and home to the famous too!
For many years Whitley Bay was seen as a popular holiday destination by many, especially by the Scottish. The famous Spanish City site was host to a theme park with rides and attractions. It has also been the home to many a famous person: Tom Hadaway the playwright, Robson Green the actor, Mark Knopfler the guitarist from Dire Straits, Rowan Atkinson the comedian and many more.
Extensive regeneration
Whitley Bay has and is continuing to evolve as a coastal town. Just in the infancy of regeneration, Whitley Bay is migrating from the old seaside holiday resort into the Coastal strip of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Hugely varied accommodation
The regeneration plans will help to develop the infrastructure of the town and introduce more cultural and entertainment events. The town has a strong accommodation infrastructure with hotels, guest houses and holiday apartments, offering varied accommodation to cater for all needs.
Stunning beaches and dramatic views
Easily accessible by all means of transport, stunning beaches and dramatic views out to sea, has ensured that Whitley Bay remains an outstanding base for anyone visiting the north east whether on business or pleasure.
