Whitley Bay a Sequel

I am a poet not a political creature.
The article I wrote on Whitley Bay
was an observation on the dilapidated
condition of the sea-front
and the streets therein, boarding houses with few
boarders, smiling landladies with little to smile
about. What were once beautiful buildings
now stare at nothing,
from plywood windows and cracked walls
that show the dispair of neglect.
The people are wan and worried,
solemn-faced with the burdens of everyday life.
They seek salvation from the council to rejuvenate
their town. The sound of your silence
shatters their hopes and hearts
alas Nothing is done. “Why”” Why” “Why”
Forget about Party and Politics.
Stop sitting on your hands.
Renovation will not come from Heaven.
It must come from you.
Have a walk around your own town
and tell me I am wrong. I dare you.
The people are waiting.
